mFulwazi Biyela Lodge

Twelve standalone suites along a riverbank, each with its own deck and most with a pool to itself.

Biyela Lodge consists of twelve standalone suites, and standalone is the operative word. Each has its own private deck, most have their own private pool, and all of them are positioned to watch the wildlife that comes down to the river every day. That daily procession is the lodge's real amenity; the pool is simply where you watch it from.

There is a particular pleasure in a suite that does not share a wall with anyone. Mornings begin on your own deck with the light coming up over the water and whatever has chosen to drink in front of you. Afternoons, when the bush goes quiet and sensible animals find shade, you have a pool and nobody to share it with.

Twelve suites spread out along a riverbank is about as far from a crowd as a lodge can get while still serving dinner.

Biyela, part of mFulwazi, calls itself an oasis of privacy and eco-luxury, and the privacy part is beyond dispute. Twelve suites spread out along a riverbank is about as far from a crowd as a lodge can get while still serving dinner.

For couples, or anyone who has had enough of other people for a while, it is exactly the right amount of solitude.
