At just 22 years old, Danie Booysen is a rising star in wildlife photography. Born and raised in South Africa, Danie’s love for nature and animals was evident from a young age. Now a Veterinary Science student at the University of Pretoria, he is dedicated to protecting and preserving Africa’s rich wildlife heritage.
Danie’s journey into photography began two years ago, driven by a deep connection to the African bush. His work captures the essence of the wild, from the majestic Big Five to the smaller, often overlooked creatures that inhabit the continent. Volunteering at Care for Wild, the largest rhino orphanage in the world, has been a significant part of Danie’s life. Here, he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by these endangered animals and the relentless efforts required to save them. His involvement with the Wildlife Group of the South African Veterinary Association Young Members further emphasizes his commitment to conservation.
Recently, Danie completed his FGASA NQF2, a field guiding qualification that has deepened his understanding of the environment he so passionately photographs. He often finds solace in the bush, where he can immerse himself in the sights and sounds of the wilderness, waiting patiently for the perfect shot.
