Camp Okavango

A long way from anywhere and exactly where you want to be.

The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world, a maze of deep lagoons, large lakes and hidden channels that wander off in directions no map quite anticipates, and it sits within a World Heritage site. Camp Okavango is on Nxaragha Island, deep inside the permanent part of that maze, which is to say a long way from anywhere and exactly where you want to be.

Permanent is the word to hold onto. Nxaragha's water stays, and so the camp can promise a water wilderness experience all year round rather than for a season. The days are built around that water, and the camp is small and remote enough that the wilderness does not have to compete with anything.

Getting there is part of the pleasure. A camp on a remote island in the world's largest inland delta is not somewhere you drive to, and the arrival has the slightly improbable quality that the best Okavango camps share: a great deal of water, a very small island, and then, somehow, dinner.
